Specialty Thread Types

Even though specifications exist for the specialty thread types, they are generally not for sale anywhere. They are used for very specialised applications and must be custom-made by a machine shop. Since their use is so limited, we do not provide calculators for them on this website. However, if enough people ask, we could make calculators for these threadforms to run under Windows.

Acme and Stub Acme threadforms are generally used in controlling linear motions of moving parts such as those used in compact disc players, photocopiers, and scanners.

Buttress threads have a sawtooth profile. These are made to withstand extremely high stress in one direction. You will probably want some of these if you are building a nuclear reactor.
